The Troops

The primary mission of the Rescue for PTSD is rescuing dogs who rescue Veterans and First Responders living with PTSD and other challenges that the dogs can support them through.

The R4PTSD Team takes dogs in from shelters, owner surrenders, and horrible situations like abandonment in the elements. Several of our dogs have come from extremely unfortunate situations and are now living their best lives, with jobs that give them purpose and families that give them love. We foster the dogs, spay and neuter them, and provide any medical care they need to get back to their best selves.

We at the Rescue take very seriously the process of matching our dogs with the perfect Veteran for them. We pride ourselves on how incredible the teams meld their lives and personalities. As you explore our Troops’ pages, you will see how well they fit into each other’s lives. This process takes time because we work to ensure that each dog is specially tailored for the needs and personality of their Veteran.

While each dog is trained specifically for the purpose of supporting their Veteran to live in the world with PTSD, they are also trained for any other needs their Veteran may have. Many of our dogs are trained to medically alert, to retrieve medications, and to provide stability. For more information on what our service dogs can do to assist their Veterans, check our our Training pages.
